Snake Catcher Ryde

Ryde contains homes, parks and workplaces in close proximity. On a shared or commercial site, isolate the immediate area without chasing the snake through adjoining spaces.

When calling from Ryde, explain whether the animal is indoors or outside, whether it remains visible, and whether children, pets, customers, livestock or workers are nearby. Harley can then assess the immediate risk and the safest access.

Around Ryde, Lane Cove and Parramatta River corridors, parks, industrial pockets, older sheds, garages and dense gardens can create several possible routes and shelter points. Leave those places undisturbed after the snake moves out of sight.

Where properties are close together, close internal doors if safe and alert neighbours or strata managers without creating a crowd.

• Lane Cove and Parramatta River corridors: Keep people and pets away from Lane Cove and Parramatta River corridors until the sighting has been assessed.
• parks: Identify the safest gate, path or building entrance leading toward parks without approaching the animal.
• industrial pockets: Pause gardening, storage or maintenance work around industrial pockets after a sighting.
• older sheds: Where older sheds is shared, ask one person to control access and another to meet Harley.
• garages: Do not place hands, tools or cameras into gaps around garages; report only what you can see safely.
• dense gardens: If the snake travels toward dense gardens, note which side it entered and leave the area undisturbed.

A sighting does not establish that there is a nest or more than one snake. Avoid assumptions about species, numbers or where the animal has gone; preserve the last reliable observation instead.

• Avoid approaching from either side, particularly around Lane Cove and Parramatta River corridors.
• Nominate one person to observe while everyone else remains clear.
• Keep visual contact only while you can remain on stable, open ground.
• Never touch, trap, corner, poke or attempt to kill the snake.
• If someone may have been bitten, call Triple Zero (000) immediately and follow the operator’s instructions.
