Penrith’s varied landscape means the access and risk may differ greatly between a river-side park, a new home and an industrial yard. Give Harley the exact setting when calling.

When calling from Penrith, explain whether the animal is indoors or outside, whether it remains visible, and whether children, pets, customers, livestock or workers are nearby. Harley can then assess the immediate risk and the safest access.

Local settings include the Nepean River corridor, foothills, new estates, industrial yards, parks and garages and sheds. The priority is not to search each space; it is to keep the immediate area clear and preserve safe access.

At river, industrial or rural-edge sites, pause nearby vehicles and machinery and nominate one person to control access.

• the Nepean River corridor: Use the Nepean River corridor as a landmark when explaining the last known position; do not move closer to inspect it.
• foothills: Tell Harley whether foothills is open, enclosed, elevated or difficult to access from the street.
• new estates: Do not place hands, tools or cameras into gaps around new estates; report only what you can see safely.
• industrial yards: If the snake travels toward industrial yards, note which side it entered and leave the area undisturbed.
• parks: Pause gardening, storage or maintenance work around parks after a sighting.
• garages and sheds: Where garages and sheds is shared, ask one person to control access and another to meet Harley.

A sighting does not establish that there is a nest or more than one snake. Avoid assumptions about species, numbers or where the animal has gone; preserve the last reliable observation instead.

• Avoid approaching from either side, particularly around the Nepean River corridor.
• Move bystanders away from the Penrith sighting without creating a crowd.
• Use a fixed landmark near the Nepean River corridor to describe the last known position.
• Do not spray the animal, throw objects or try to force it into the open.
• If someone may have been bitten, call Triple Zero (000) immediately and follow the operator’s instructions.
