Snake Catcher Engadine

Engadine’s park-edge blocks often contain rock gardens and raised decks. Do not reach beneath structures or follow a snake onto a bush track.

When calling from Engadine, explain whether the animal is indoors or outside, whether it remains visible, and whether children, pets, customers, livestock or workers are nearby. Harley can then assess the immediate risk and the safest access.

A call from Engadine may involve Royal National Park edge, bush tracks, rocky gardens, family homes, decks and pool areas. Stop nearby activity and describe which feature the animal was closest to when it disappeared.

Bushland corridors and sloping gardens make distance especially important; never follow a snake through a rear boundary or reserve.

• Royal National Park edge: If the snake travels toward Royal National Park edge, note which side it entered and leave the area undisturbed.
• bush tracks: Do not place hands, tools or cameras into gaps around bush tracks; report only what you can see safely.
• rocky gardens: Tell Harley whether rocky gardens is open, enclosed, elevated or difficult to access from the street.
• family homes: Use family homes as a landmark when explaining the last known position; do not move closer to inspect it.
• decks: Identify the safest gate, path or building entrance leading toward decks without approaching the animal.
• pool areas: Keep people and pets away from pool areas until the sighting has been assessed.

A sighting does not establish that there is a nest or more than one snake. Avoid assumptions about species, numbers or where the animal has gone; preserve the last reliable observation instead.

• Stop activity near Royal National Park edge and move away on a clear path.
• Close internal doors only when that can be done without moving toward the snake.
• Note its direction of travel rather than following it through vegetation or storage.
• Do not lift timber, equipment, pots or stored materials to search for it.
• If someone may have been bitten, call Triple Zero (000) immediately and follow the operator’s instructions.
