Killara’s deep gardens and stonework can conceal movement quickly. Keep the area still and report the exact wall, garden bed or building edge last seen.

When calling from Killara, explain whether the animal is indoors or outside, whether it remains visible, and whether children, pets, customers, livestock or workers are nearby. Harley can then assess the immediate risk and the safest access.

Killara properties may include established gardens, bushland reserves, creek lines, stone walls, pools and older garages. These features change access and visibility, so the last known position is more useful than an uncertain species description.

Steep gardens, bushland boundaries and layered decks can make following a snake unsafe; remain on stable ground and report its direction instead.

• established gardens: Pause gardening, storage or maintenance work around established gardens after a sighting.
• bushland reserves: Where bushland reserves is shared, ask one person to control access and another to meet Harley.
• creek lines: Keep people and pets away from creek lines until the sighting has been assessed.
• stone walls: Identify the safest gate, path or building entrance leading toward stone walls without approaching the animal.
• pools: Use pools as a landmark when explaining the last known position; do not move closer to inspect it.
• older garages: Tell Harley whether older garages is open, enclosed, elevated or difficult to access from the street.

A sighting does not establish that there is a nest or more than one snake. Avoid assumptions about species, numbers or where the animal has gone; preserve the last reliable observation instead.

• Create several metres of distance without sudden movement or noise.
• Nominate one person to observe while everyone else remains clear.
• Use a fixed landmark near established gardens to describe the last known position.
• Do not use garden tools, brooms or containers in an attempted capture.
• If someone may have been bitten, call Triple Zero (000) immediately and follow the operator’s instructions.
