Snake removal can lead to unusual places. For this call-out, Harley travelled by boat to a property on a Hawkesbury River island after a diamond python was found where it could not safely remain.

An island snake-removal call-out

Reaching the property was the first part of the job. Harley brought the appropriate capture and transport equipment aboard and crossed the river so the resident did not have to approach or attempt to move the snake.

Once on the island, Harley assessed the location, found the python and planned a calm capture. Diamond pythons are powerful animals, and even a non-venomous snake can bite when frightened or handled incorrectly.

A safe return journey

Harley safely secured the python before making the return trip. The boat journey added another layer to the call-out: the animal needed to remain contained and calm while the vessel moved across the river.

After reaching the mainland, Harley relocated the python appropriately. The unusual job is a practical example of the planning, experience and adaptability required for professional snake removal across Greater Sydney.

About diamond pythons

Diamond pythons (Morelia spilota spilota) are non-venomous constrictors found around Sydney and surrounding bushland. Their dark bodies carry distinctive cream or yellow markings, and they are capable climbers that may shelter in trees, roof spaces and other protected locations.

A python should still be given plenty of space. Do not grab, corner or transport one yourself. Keep people and pets clear, watch from a safe position and call a licensed catcher.

If a snake is difficult to reach

  • Stay back and keep children and pets away from the area.
  • Do not climb, enter the water or use a boat to approach the snake.
  • Watch from a safe position if you can do so without blocking its escape.
  • Tell Harley about access, water crossings or other site conditions.
  • Call Harley on 0411 103 488 for professional advice and removal.
